Royal Caribbean announce Symphony of the Seas
On 8th March 2017 Royal Caribbean International officially announced that their upcoming fourth Oasis Class ship would be named Symphony of the Seas.
The choice of name for the ship had become something of a badly kept secret in recent months, with a number of leaks from suppliers involved in the construction of the ship. Recent photos of the vessels construction at the STX France shipyard in St. Nazaire also showed the name being welded onto the structure of the ship.

The latest ship to join Royal Caribbean’s extraordinary fleet will follow their usual trend of being slightly larger than her sister ships of the same class meaning will become the largest ship in the world at launch. Symphony of the Seas will span 1,188ft in length, and 215ft wide. Towering a total of 16 decks high, the ship will weigh in at a record breaking 230,000 gross tonnes, 3000 more than the current record holder and sister ship Harmony of the Seas which debuted in 2016.
The extra length and 28 additional passenger cabins will give the Symphony of the Seas capacity for 5,494 guests based on double occupancy, surpassing the 5,479 on Harmony of the Seas. Fully loaded she could sail with 6780 guests and 2175 crew!
Set to be delivered in April 2018, Symphony of the Seas will sail the summer out of Barcelona on 7 & 8 night Mediterranean itineraries taking in ports such as Palma de Mallorca, Marseille, Florence, Pisa, Rome and Naples. Symphony will then sail transatlantic in October to her new home port of Miami where she will sail from Royal Caribbean’s brand new Port Miami Terminal A which is currently under construction.

The ship will host many of the same features from its predecessor Harmony of the Seas, including the 10-storey Ultimate Abyss dry slide, two FlowRider surf simulators, and a Bionic Bar where robot arms serve guests their drinks. The familiar seven neighbourhood themed areas of the ship that have proven popular with also be present.
There is sure to be some new standout features to separate this ship from all that have come before it, but not surprisingly the company is keeping quiet about these unique features until closer to the vessels completion and debut next year. Guests should also expect a new broadway production show to launch with the ship.
